An Ever Accompanying Mirror

There was a planning event going on at the office. This is when we set our goals for the upcoming quarter and commit to timelines around it. The presentations were in progress when I noticed this. We were in the process of shifting from our old office and there was still some work to be done to polish the new one. A man was cleaning a set of mirrors in the games room. Every now and then he would check himself up in the mirror probably admiring the beauty of the human body. This brought a smile to my face as I would do the same whenever I find myself in front of a mirror; in an elevator, window pane of the cars, etc.

This triggered a thought, what would happen if I had a mirror with me all the time, be with me wherever I go, reflecting on my each and every action — An ever accompanying Mirror. Yes, the idea does seem awkward in some cases :P but think about it. When you wake up in the morning it shows you how relaxed your sleep was. when you are running to catch the usual bus to the office, it shows you how frightened you are about missing it. When you beat that colleague in a game of Foosball, it shows you the sense of achievement by the look on your face. Yes, life would be different.

Many a times I find myself regretting some of my actions. Actions, that are provoked by an impulse created by the dynamics of the situation. Things I do out of anger, pain, etc. What would happen if I had the mirror with me at these times? It would show me the blunders that I am performing. It would make me understand that this not who I am. Amidst the actions that I am performing, a glance into the mirror would reveal the mistakes. This would help me stop from whatever I am doing, take a breath and think about the actions that I am performing. This is a big advantage as I can always rely on the mirror to stop me from these blunders.

Thinking further, I realise do I need to rely on a physical entity to help me? Can this be solved without the dependency of the mirror? Can I create a mindset of having a virtual mirror (it is the age of virtualisation, ain’t it! :P) with me to reflect not just on my actions, but my thoughts too. A mirror that shows me the mistakes and helps me act positively on them. It can also show me how happy I am while doing the things I love, while being with my family and closest friends. Well, things are easier said than done. But I would definitely try to move to this state of mind.
