The Red Pill

The movie Matrix was a classic. Once we realize how much thought process has gone into the concept and then understand the philosophies underlying the plot, we just fall in love with it. Yes, I would prefer the Red Pill. This goes on with a learning that I have experienced. Knowing things around me and observing them brings greater satisfaction. It helps me evaluate why I would prefer something over the other. For instance it helped me understand the essence of Happiness.

Happiness, what we all seek, what we all crave for is something that even I wanted so badly. Always trying out different things that make me happy. Many times I have ended up imagining a moment to be the happiest and then when it actually happens, I don’t find it the same. I have come to realize that we enjoy happiness only because we have experienced its negative side, Sadness.

Imagine a world where all your wishes are fulfilled; you get the best house, a dream family and all the time that you would like to spend doing activities you like. Over a period of time, would you be happy? I wouldn’t be. Unless, I have been made to work to achieve these things periodically; experiencing the pain of not having them, developing a will to have them and then going on to achieve them. Its only when we have seen the other side that we find the enjoyment in Happiness.

For eg. take the case of the graph shown below. Its the happiness quotient of a person who is single and the one who is in a relationship. No points in guessing which line to belongs which person :P. I am sure if you ask a person who has tasted the happiness quotient of a relationship if he would prefer being in such a state, he would say Yes. The more we experience sadness, the better we enjoy happiness :).

Lets accept sadness as a part of our life. Its Yin Yang, that’s the beauty of it. Understanding this helps us deal with those downs in our lives, thus negating its effects and then go on about enjoying the accompanying happiness. Leaving you behind with some awesome lyrics from a great band : Passenger

“Well you only need the light when it’s burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow”

“Only know you’ve been high when you’re feeling low
Only hate the road when you’re missing home”
